At The One Minute Miracle, we are committed to helping you better your home, and one tool to do this is 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a chemical compound that, in its pure form, is a colorless liquid, but in commercial grades it often is pale blue. It can be used as an antiseptic, disinfectant, and bleach. There are two grades of hydrogen peroxide: food grade and non-food grade. Continue reading to learn the difference!

Dilution Levels

When shopping for H2O2, you will come across different percentages. What these signify are dilution levels and concentration of the chemicals. For example, 35% hydrogen peroxide is 65% water. This dilution level is more potent and has stronger effects when in use.

Purity Standards

Food grade hydrogen peroxide must meet certain purity standards and is approved for use in food production and as a food additive. Non-food grade hydrogen peroxide does not meet these purity standards and is not approved for use in food production. It may be used for other purposes, such as cleaning and bleaching.

Stabilizers

The key distinction between food grade and non-food grade H2O2 is the use of stabilizers. 35% food grade H2O2 does not contain stabilizers, whereas regular hydrogen peroxide does. Stabilizers such as phenol, sodium stannate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, and acetanilide should never be ingested, which is why they are added to non-food grade H2O2, but not food grade hydrogen peroxide. Learning this, you may be asking, “Does hydrogen peroxide expire faster without stabilizers?” If you store it properly, you shouldn’t have any problems with hastened expirations.

Uses For Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

Without the involvement of stabilizers, 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide can be used in a variety of ways because it is safer. This opens the door for medical remedies, mouthwash or toothpaste alternatives, and, of course, food preparation and storage. On top of all this, food grade H2O2 can also be used to disinfect your garden, clean your kitchen, remove stains, and more. Be sure to be cautious when using it, however.

If you are looking for a safe and effective way to disinfect your produce, 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide is the way to go. Contact the One Minute Miracle team to learn more!
